面子又可分为道德脸面和社会脸面。
比如过去村子里通常有一些德高望重的老人，他们生活经验丰富、心地善良、心胸宽广、可以说见多识广，村里的人都非常尊敬他们。一旦村子里有人家遇到麻烦事，或者几家之间发生冲突，都会找这些老人进行调停。
他的话大家都会听，也会卖给老人家面子。这些老人就是道德脸面的象征。在别人看来，他的话就是一种为人处世的标准，是衡量一个人的道德底线。
在许多小说和影视剧当中，也经常会出现这样的桥段，当两方出现一些矛盾，即将面临一场争斗时，一方为了息事宁人，总会找一些社会地位高的局外人过来调和，这些中间人总会说，“能否给我一个面子，这件事就这样翻过去如何。”就这样，矛盾冲突的双方在中间人的协调下化干戈为玉帛。之所以会这样，就是因为双方都给了中间人的面子。
这些社会地位比较高的人，就是一种社会脸面。他们可能是某个行业的翘楚，也可能是在某些势力的代表，他说的话许多人还是会给面子的。
中国传统的仁、义、礼、智、信等伦理道德，说到底就是要有效解决如何分配社会资源、如何处理人际关系的问题，或者说是要解决给谁面子、不给谁面子、给多大面子的问题。
事实上，每个人都不是孤立存在于社会上的，都会与他人发生一系列这样或那样的关系。一个人不可能让所有人都喜欢自己，也不能干涉别人去喜欢谁。我们能够做到的，就是尊重自己的内心，做好自己，而不是仅仅为了满足别人的期待、喜欢和认可而活着。

面子这个问题，从传统的仁、义、礼、智、信等伦理道德说，就是要有效解决如何分配社会资源、如何处理人际关系的问题，或者说是要解决给谁面子、不给谁面子、给多大面子的问题。事实上，每个人都不是孤立存在于社会上的，都会与他人发生一系列这样或那样的关系。一个人不可能让所有人都喜欢自己，也不能干涉别人去喜欢谁。我们能够做到的，就是尊重自己的内心，做好自己，而不是仅仅为了满足别人的期待、喜欢和认可而活着。
凡事不必太在意，也不要过于强求，一切顺其自然。无论我们处于人生的什么阶段，处于什么样的状态，都要爱惜自己，忠于自己，相信自己。
